About This Project
The design language of Filli Café in Westheimer, Houston, Texas, presents a harmonious blend of modernist architectural elements and tactile materiality. The space embodies a linear progression with zones that subtly delineate various dining experiences. Starting with the plan view, the layout is a testament to efficient space planning, characterized by a fluid yet structured arrangement of seating that caters to different group dynamics, from intimate tables for two to communal dining areas. The strategic placement of planters introduces biophilic design principles, fostering an environment that speaks of vitality and organic integration.
The seating is an eclectic mix of custom-designed wooden chairs and upholstered banquettes, providing both visual interest and ergonomic comfort. The tables, with their rounded edges, echo the softness of the space's overall geometry. The incorporation of large, potted trees not only serves as a visual focal point but also enhances the café's acoustic properties, absorbing ambient noise to create a serene dining experience.
The graphic element on the feature wall, a vibrant juxtaposition against the otherwise earthy palette, acts as an aesthetic anchor that energizes the space. It is an artful nod to Filli’s branding, reflecting the brand's dynamic essence and its origins. Storage and display elements are seamlessly integrated into the walls, ensuring the functional aspects of the café are addressed without compromising the design integrity.
Transitioning to the interior renderings, one observes a pronounced interplay between the natural wood tones of the ceiling and the terrazzo textures that dominate the counter surfaces and flooring. This creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that is simultaneously grounded and sophisticated. The ceiling slopes gently upwards, drawing the eye to the elegantly suspended cylindrical pendant lights, which offer focused illumination complementing the ambient lighting scheme.
